Nayanthara is one of the most popular actors in South Indian cinema, with more than 200 films to her name. She began her acting career in 2002 and started achieving mainstream recognition
around 2005 with breakthrough roles in the movies Pokkiri and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Since then, she has appeared in many hit movies, including Ayan, Yaamirukka Bayamey,
and Sigaram Thodu. Nayanthara has been married to American software engineer Vishnu Prasad since 2012.

Nayanthara is an Indian film actress and playback singer. She has won six Filmfare Awards. The youngest of five children, she was born in Chennai to a Malayali family of lawyers on September 24, 1984. Her father died when she was 17 years old. She attended school at Sacred Heart Matriculation School in T Nagar and then pursued a degree in economics from Stella Maris College.
After her first year in college, she dropped out to pursue a career as an actress. Nayanthara made her debut with the 2002 Tamil film Thulladha Manamum Thullum which went unnoticed, but this paved the way for her 2004 release Kuselan directed by Shankar which became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films ever with worldwide earnings of over ₹1 billion.
She won the National Film Award for Best Actress, becoming only the second female recipient of this award in its history. In 2010, she starred alongside Ajith Kumar in Vaaranam Aayiram and it became her biggest blockbuster hit. Asin, her long-time friend who played the female lead in Kuselan and Vaaranam Aayiram,
introduced Nayanthara to Rajinikanth who agreed to play a small role in their next film Kochadaiyaan (2014). She also debuted as a producer through another project titled Avvai Shanmugi (2012) starring Sathyaraj. Apart from acting, she sings under the stage name Harini and has released several albums including the 2017 album Oru Kal Oru Kannadi which won her much acclaim.

Nayanthara began dating actor Dhanush in 2005. The couple got engaged on December 21, 2013, and married on November 14, 2014. Nayanthara has a son named Yathartha with her husband Dhanush. They announced the birth of their first child through social media on January 3, 2018.
She is also mother to twin daughters from an earlier relationship with director Prabhu Deva: Aishwarya (born 2001) and Kaveri (born 2002). In addition, she has three stepchildren – Suhana (daughter of actress Amala), Shanaya (daughter of actress Rambha), and Thiruvannamalai (son of actress Sangeetha).
In 2011, it was reported that Nayanthara had adopted Jayashree alias Janani as her daughter. Janani said she left home at age 16 and spent time living on the streets. After meeting Nayanthara while they were both out shopping one day, they decided to meet again. When Janani told her story, Nayantara immediately offered help.
Janani became part of Nayanthara’s household after going back home to get some personal belongings before moving into Nayantara’s house.
